About Score

The award winning Anaheim Ducks S.C.O.R.E. Program was developed in 2005 with the ultimate goal of promoting healthy living and academic excellence to all students in Southern California. In addition to being recognized by the California State Assembly for its educational initiatives, the S.C.O.R.E. program has received the Celebrate Literacy Awards from both the local and state chapters of the International Reading Association.

Ducks S.C.O.R.E. (Scholastic Curriculum of Recreation & Education) offers free educational standards based programs and incentives for teachers and students. It also participates in the educational needs of its community by sending the team’s players, coaches and front office staff to schools. To accomplish our goal, we developed two aspects to this program: In-Class Education and Physical Education.

The Programs

The In-Class Education Program consists of three smaller programs: school supplies donation, Reading Is the Goal, and First Flight Field Trip. Over 25,000 students participate in this program on a yearly basis, in which participating schools span from San Diego, San Bernardino, Orange, Riverside and Los Angeles Counties. Through the school supplies program, teachers are given sets of school supplies to use as an incentive to motivate students in the classroom or simply to reward students for accomplishing educational goals. Reading Is the Goal assists teachers in communicating the importance of reading while also cultivating the love of reading among students. This program has been documented to raise reading aptitude among students and school test scores. Through the use of a rewards system, students, classrooms and schools will have a chance to win great prizes provided by the Anaheim Ducks. Lastly, the First Flight Field Trip is a one-day educational activity that combines the excitement of NHL hockey with challenging educational concepts through an interactive Ducks practice and skills competition at Honda Center. Students will be able to apply their classroom knowledge, such as math and science, to the exciting game of hockey.

The Physical Education Program promotes healthy living through the use of street hockey. This program consists of a donation of all essentials needed to play street hockey at your school. Currently, over 35 schools in both private and public institutions in Southern California have integrated this program as a module within their physical education curriculum.
